I have always loved baking, and over the last few years I have really enjoyed pushing myself to try new recipes. This has led to a lot of sweets sitting around our house!! I finally decided to turn my love of baking and experimenting with baking into a business. When I brought this idea up to my family, they were all very supportive, and my oldest son ask if he could make cheesecakes for the Bakery. How could I say no to that??

First thing I had to do was come up with a name. I thought this was going to be a hard task, but it turns out the only thing I could possibly think to name it was Nana’s Bakery after my mom. My Mom, who went by Nana to my 3 boys, passed away a few years ago. She is the one who helped me develop my love for baking. She was a hobby baker herself. She was always the one to bring cookies with her to an event.

As I got older my dad started making pies pumpkin and pecan pies. This began my love of making fruit pies. Over the last decade or so my dad has begun making cheesecakes and enjoying experimenting with a lot of different kinds. This is where my son’s love of making cheesecakes comes from. He stayed with my dad for a day and asked him to teach how to make a cheesecake. So now Parker has taken on baking different kinds of cheesecakes and is looking forward to selling them in the bakery.

While my cousin’s and I were growing up my aunt (who ran a catering business) would make us special cakes for our birthdays. They could be anything we wanted, and she would do her best to make it happen. This has always been one of my favorite childhood memories, and one I decided to carry on for my kids. So began my love of baking cakes. My kids keep me challenged in this area, by not only picking harder designs every year, but also asking for more complicated flavors.

I wrote out all of this to say that family is why I have decided to go down this road of opening my own bakery. I love baking for family and friends, and I am looking forward to baking for many more people going forward.
